Looking good!

Well I know it has been a few weeks, but only a little has changed on the outside and inside. We now have windows and a doors as well as electrical wires on the inside and plumbing lines. Not only that, but roofers have been shingling the roof. Hopefully this coming week the brick layers will be at the house bricking. We will just have to see how the weather behaves! So far things are running smoothly and building is becoming fun because we see so many changes and we get to start picking out what we want on the inside. Hopefully in the next few weeks, I will start showing pictures from the inside.

One last picture!

The building has started!

I am so excited that we officially have walls and a roof. It has been a fast process because each day the builders work, there is something new and exciting to see. On the other hand, it has rained a lot over the last few weeks. In the meantime, I have ordered and recieved a cool farmhouse sink for the kitchen and a free-standing pedistal bathtub for my bathroom. Believe it or not, I ordered the sink off of ebay and saved a ton of money on it and I ordered the tub from Vintage Tub and Bath. I also saved a ton ordering directly from the manufacturer. We have also ordered our showers for the masterbath and the girls bathroom. We decided to go with acryllic showers because they are nice and easy to keep clean. I originally wanted a tile shower, but decised I wanted more of a lighter, clean look for the master bath.

The holidays are over and it is time to build!

So it has been a month since I have updated the blog. It looks as though not much has changed, but it has. After many days off because of the holidays and rain, the crew has finally finished all concrete and basement. Not only that, the flooring system is in and the crawlspace is framed. The crew will start framing the house on Monday. The house will finally begin to change daily and grow up. I will do my best to update weekely or a couple times during the week.

We are officially building!

Well I know it has been a few weeks, but there has been a bit of delay because of rain and wet conditions and the Thanksgiving holiday. The last few days have shown lots of progress. In the last couple of days, the 9 ft basement walls have been poured and now they are ready to be built on. It is exciting to see something being added to our lot when the last month or so has been nothing but taking away. Brent and I know the brick color, morter color, trim and shaker color, but still have a hard time picturing it. We have settled and ordered beige windows with a 4 pane grid and a wood door with 4 panes of glass. Hopefully and weather permitting we will see much more progress in the next few weeks.

Batman is protecting our future home!

Batman was spotted on the lot a few days before Thanksgiving. He must have been protecting our future home!

Rain Rain Go AWAY!!!

We we were hoping to start pouring concrete for the basement after Thanksgiving, but it has been very wet in Northport/Tuscaloosa. In the mean time, Brent and I are still trying to decide what we want the exterior of the home to look like. I think we have decided on some shade of red brick with light beige shakes. My job this week is to drive around neighborhoods in Tuscaloosa and Northport and find what I/we like. It is a tough job, but someone has to do it. Plus it is cold outside so it will give me an opportunity to get out of the apartment. Hopefully by the end of the week there will be new pictures, if not of the lot/house, then of our Christmas tree and outside decorations at the apartment.

Breaking Ground

So on November 9th, the Pettus family broke ground on our new home. The beautiful wooded lot has been cleared and the basement has been dug.

Life has changed for the Pettus family

I realize that it has been a long while since I have updated my blog, but that is changing! We have exciting news. The Pettus family has bought 2 and a half acres, sold our house of 8 years, and is starting to build a new house. Check in when you can and come on this journey with us.
